Programmed to develop

Schools which recruit and retain the best candidates all have good CPD programmes in place with UK CPD providers working closely with schools to ensure all staff have opportunities to develop. Training programmes can be excellent with a high number of INSETs from visiting experts, plus the chance to attend courses in local areas. Members of the school workforce can access a range of courses including Masters Degrees (hyperlink to listed courses) and specific accredited courses designed specifically for International Teachers.(hyperlink to ECIS TIC)  International School Membership organisations deliver fantastice conferences throughout the academic year… for further details visit our events section

A matter of choice

It is a good move to choose a school which follows the UK national curriculum or International Baccalaureate is a good move as teachers can keep up to date. Working with ‘badged’ schools is also worth considering. These are accredited with professional bodies giving peace of mind as to the standards of education and include British International Schools Worldwide (BISW), European Council of International Schools (ECIS), Council of International Schools (CIS), and Council of British Independent Schools in European Countries (COBIS).

Eteach International partners a number of these organisations and can provide advice on individual schools. Independent inspection reports are also useful where available as these will contain relevant CPD information.

Freedom of expression

All English speaking schools enjoy autonomy over their curriculum. Those choosing not to follow the national curriculum give staff the freedom to exercise flexibility in the classroom over what and how they teach.  Teachers tend to grow in confidence, expressing themselves and developing skills without the constraints of a strict, prescribed programme.

Moving on up

With teaching staff more transient and job opportunities therefore coming up more frequently than in the UK, there are more chances of taking on higher levels of responsibility and more challenging roles earlier in your career.

Shared network

Networking and shared experiences with teachers from other parts of a country working for different schools or within the same school group and from other countries and backgrounds is also positive. This enriching, multi-cultural experience helps give a global perspective on education that stays with teachers throughout their career.
