Unlike traditional supply agencies, all teachers working in the Supply Pool are paid according to their position on the main pay scale, reflecting your experience and qualifications. The 6 point Management Pay scale is now in operation in most authorities so we are also able to offer support to supply teachers who have reached the top of scale 9.
Details
The standard full day will be paid at 1/195 of the annual salary. This equates to a teacher being available to the school for 6.5 hours. Payment at this level enables a school to require that a supply teacher:
- Attends pre-school briefing
- Meets the KS co-ordinator/HOD to establish the needs for the day
- Is in the classroom 10 minutes before the beginning of the school day to receive pupils and perhaps parents, if so directed
- Is available for break duty
- Can stay after school in order to: attend staff/departmental meetings; return stock, work, assessments and equipment; carry out their own pupil sanctions such as detention or oversee the safety of children whose parents are late collecting them
- Can be expected to carry out marking and preparation where required.
Exceptions
Where payment is for less than a whole day (e.g. only for hours taught) then there can be no reasonable expectation that the above responsibilities will be carried out by a supply teacher. In this case the work is ‘directed time’ and payment is calculated on an hourly rate based on the number of hours worked as agreed between the Supply Teacher and the Head Teacher. We provide parity of teachers’ salary assessment across all LAs participating in The Supply Pool. The salary assessment policy has been agreed with the NUT.
