With a diverse mix of desert, savannah, forest and sea, Africa is the perfect place to go for those who are looking to work outside the UK. As well as offering endless opportunities, teaching in Africa enables candidates to embark on a journey that they will never forget.
As the second largest continent accounting for approximately 15% of the world’s population, there are plenty of opportunities for candidates who are interested in teaching in Africa.
A land of contrasts
Across such a large and varying continent, there is no one culture. Life varies enormously from country to country and differences are noticeable everywhere, from language and cuisine to folklore and religious belief. There are of course huge contrasts between the large metropolitan areas and rural village life - and even within cities and between villages themselves.
The benefits of living and working in Africa
While you’ll need to be adventurous, resilient and accepting of different ways of life, a stint teaching in Africa will be an experience likely to touch you deeply. It will also pay dividends on your CV, demonstrating your willingness to take on a challenge, be flexible and show survival and leadership skills.
You may be surprised at the facilities on offer at many of the international schools we feature. Many benefits are frequently available such as accommodation, flights, generous holidays and sometimes a tax-free salary.
