Parish Church CE Primary School
This is a Church of England Aided School, Group 2 with 305 pupils currently on roll. In September there will be 12.5 FTE teaching staff, including the head teacher and deputy.
The school is situated near the centre of the town on Acland Street in an area of mature, well-kept housing. Some children come from an area of newer private housing on the hill above the town.
11 selection is in operation. Children transfer to the Queen Elizabeth High School, Castle Hills GM School or Middlefield School. A few parents send their children to comprehensive schools in neighbouring areas.
The school is housed in mainly Victorian buildings which have been improved in recent years and contains 8 classrooms plus an extension for the reception children opened in September 1996 including new staff and children's toilets and additional group-teaching spaces created within the old building. There is one mobile classroom.
A new entrance area with disabled access was built in 2002 and a new block of two classrooms was completed in time for the beginning of the summer Term 2003.
Curriculum and Organisation
We aim to provide a caring, Christian atmosphere in which children can reach their full potential in personal, social, spiritual and physical development. First-hand experience is provided wherever possible. Day and longer visits to places of interest are strongly encouraged.
In the year 2003/04 the school will be organised in 11 classes – two 4 (Reception), 3 parallel Y1/2 classes, 3 parallel Y3/4 classes and 3 parallel Y5/6 classes. Each of these age groups has a team co-ordinator, one of whom in each key stage is the Key Stage Co-ordinator.
A joint approach to planning has been developed. All teachers have an input and each has a responsibility for a curricular area throughout the school. There is a high level of commitment and staff work well as a team. Following a good OFSTED report in October 2000, we have completed most of our action plan.
