Gearies Infant school can be found in the outer London Borough of Redbridge. It has a long tradition of high standards and the children are noted for their good behaviour. The school serves the multicultural community around Gants Hill, attracting many children from nearby Ilford. It is very close to a tube station and is well served for public transport.The school has three forms of entry, with maximum class sizes of 30. It has a Nursery Unit attached and a large, well-developed playground space. The school site is shared with Gearies Junior school and Redbridge's Institute of Adult Education.Each class has classroom assistant support and members of staff are very supportive of each other. The curriculum is delivered through year group teams that work closely to achieve good standards. Staff are supported and encouraged to develop their own professional development. Teachers receive regular non-contact during the term.The Arts are well developed, and the school delivers both the National Literacy and Numeracy Strategies. The children have achieved high standards in ICT through our recently upgraded ICT suite. A full time computer assistant supports ICT lessons throughout the school.The school received its second successful Ofsted inspection in 1999. The school supports the principles of Inclusion and Equal Opportunity.
