Corpus Christi Catholic High School

Corpus Christi Catholic High School

Corpus Christi Catholic High School is a popular and successful Catholic 11-16 co-educational comprehensive school which serves, mainly, the Catholic communities of Central and North Cardiff. It strives to fulfil its mission as a Catholic school and its aims are evident in the Mission Statement below.

MISSION STATEMENT

Together we are the body of Christ

In our school community we will

· show our love by helping and forgiving each other

· recognise that everyone is unique and celebrate their differences

· value ourselves, develop our talents and help others to develop theirs

· strive for excellence in everything we do

· grow closer to God in Word, in Sacrament and in what we do

· live in partnership with all those around us

· respond to Christ’s call to build His kingdom

Candidates do not need to be Catholics but must be comfortable working in a Christian environment. Candidates must also be keen to build positive relationships with pupils, offering them the care, support and dignity which enables young people to grow and flourish.

Corpus Christi currently has 1069 pupils on roll and it is continually over-subscribed. It is one of three Catholic secondary schools in Cardiff which feed St David’s Catholic Sixth Form College. The school’s catchment area is wide and, therefore, comprehensive. However, there is a larger than average percentage of children from relatively affluent areas and the number of children on free school meals is below the national average. Results at KS3 and KS4 are well above local and national norms and Corpus Christi’s results are in the upper quartile of schools with a similar percentage of free school meals. In 2006, 76% of GCSE candidates achieved five or more *A-C grades and 95% achieved five or more *A-G grades. The provision for children with special educational needs has developed substantially in recent years.

In 2001, the school achieved the ACCAC/HSBC Award for the most improved school in South Wales in terms of GCSE results. Subsequently in 2002, Corpus Christi received the ACCAC/HSBC Award for the most improved school throughout Wales.

The school is housed in eleven year old buildings on the edge of Cardiff which provide a pleasant and modern educational environment.
