St Laurence School

St Laurence School

St. Laurence School arose from the amalgamation of Fitzmaurice Grammar School and Trinity Shool, opening in 1980 on the former Trinity site. The school is a group 6, co-educational comprehensive. The majority of students come from our immediate catchment area which includes the town of Bradford on Avon and the neighbouring villages of Atworth, Monkton Farleigh, Winsley, Limpley Stoke and South Wraxall. In recent years more entrants have come from further afield, Villages such as Holt and Freshford are now strongly linked to St. Laurence and numbers travelling from other towns have grown. Each year our new entry is oversubscribed. We have a strong academic sixth form of over 200 students.

Our academic results are excellent. In 2002 70% of students achieved 5 A*-C grades at GCSE and our pass rate at A-level was over 97%. The school has a strong tradition for sport, music, dance, drama and art. We have a large sports hall, gymnasium, traditional school theatre, drama and art studios. We have daily use of the Wiltshire Music Centre which includes a 300-seat concert hall, two classrooms and rehearsal facilities.

The school was awarded Specialist School status in the Performing Arts with effect from September 200, gained the Investors in People award in January 2001 when we also received a School Achievement Award, and was designated a Beacon School in July 2001. In 2002 we gained Sportsmark status.
