Moulsham High School
Moulsham High School is a large, comprehensive school in Chelmsford, Essex, specialising in English and Humanities. The Headteacher is Mr Mark Farmer.
Moulsham is first and foremost a place of learning, 'where people Enjoy, Enrich and Achieve'. We have an ethos in which students of all abilities feel valued so that they are able to reach their full potential. They:
ENJOY coming to school and learning experiences available to them;
Are ENRICHED with a wealth of opportunities inside and outside of lessons and the curriculum, so that all talents are identified and nurtured;
ACHIEVE high standards:
academically, in terms of examination results;
personally, through their respect for others and their environment;
socially, through their contribution to the life of the school.
What Ofsted said on their last visit...
"The personal development and well-being of our young people is outstanding"
"All groups of learners are well cared for and supported"
"Students put their good knowledge to excellent effect"
A particular, almost unique, feature of Moulsham's organisation is its teaching of the students in Years 7, 8 and 9 in separate boys' and girls' groups in all subjects, and in English, Physical Education and some Science and Mathematics classes in Years 10 and 11. The popularity of the school and the acknowledged quality of the examination results the school has constantly achieved may be partly attributed to this special type of organisation. However, many other positive features of the school contribute as much, if not more, to its success.
We are proud of the way in which our buildings and resources are managed. Despite the age of the two main buildings, the school is bright, clean and well-maintained.
Since specialising in English and Humanities, extensive refurbishment of the existing facilities has taken place and a brand new extension has allowed all Humanities subjects to be housed under the same roof. Large, central, well-equipped resource areas are also available.
The most exciting development for the school has been the construction of the state-of-the-art Chaucer Building that houses both a Library Wing and a Media Wing, fit for the 21st Century. This modern facility provides all that is necessary to support and promote independent learning for staff and students alike.
The school if fortunate to have a skilled site team capable of maintaining and developing all of its accommodation and regular decorating and refurbishing takes place throughout the school.
