Bishop Milner Catholic School
Bishop Milner School is a thriving and heavily over-subscribed Group 5 four-form entry 11-18 mixed Catholic Comprehensive school situated on a pleasant site approximately one mile from Dudley Town Centre. The school has 42 teaching staff and 720 pupils drawn from a wide area. Currently there are 140 students in our Sixth Form.
In 1995 the DfEE ranked the school as the sixteenth most improved school in the country. In 1998 the DfEE ranked our Sixth Form as the thirteenth most improved Sixth Form in the country. In 1999 Bishop Milner Sixth Form was again ranked in the top 50 most improved Sixth Forms and Colleges 1996-1999. In 2001 Bishop Milner was awarded a School Achievement Award for substantially improved results between 1997 and 2000 and again in 2002. Bishop Milner has been awarded a second School Achievement Award for substantially improved results between 1998 and 2001.
In their 2001 Advanced level examinations our students achieved an 86% pass rate with 31% passes at Grades A and B. Our Advanced GNVQ Health & Social Care students and Advanced GNVQ Business students achieved 100% Distinctions and Merits. At GCE AS Level our Lower Sixth students achieved a 90% pass rate with the 34% passes at A & B grades. 100% pass rates were achieved in Art, Biology, English Literature, Further Maths, Geography, History and Theatre Studies. Our Year 11 GCSE results were the best ever achieved in the school with 79% of the cohort achieving 5 or more A*-C grades. Over the past seven years the percentage of Y11 pupils gaining 5 or more GCSEs at Grades A*-C:
55%, 62%, 52%, 58%, 65%, 70% and 79%
2001 was the seventh year in succession that Bishop Milner was in the top scoring schools in Dudley Borough.
A £1 million capital building programme was completed in October 1994 which provides a new block of Drama, Music and Dance Studios, ICT, Religious Studies and Sixth Form suites.
A £6.5 million building programme starts in July 2002 to provide us with a state of the art school by the end of 2004.
