Buckler's Mead Academy

Yeovil is a large market town with an excellent and developing shopping centre set close to the Somerset/Dorset border. The countryside around Yeovil is breathtakingly beautiful, ranging from picturesque villages, open rolling pastures and dramatic hilly areas, to the large towns of Taunton and Dorchester not far away. Buckler's Mead Academy is situated on the edge of the town towards the Dorset border.

Buckler's Mead Academy has around 1000 pupils, most of whom live nearby. It has a long reputation for providing a caring education and for having highly dedicated staff.

We have a record of providing excellent career development opportunities for our staff, with good internal promotion opportunities and experiences that have led to our staff progressing to posts of four Headships, two Deputy Heads, three Assistant Heads and several Heads of Department and Year Co-ordinator posts just within the past few years.

The Academy is at the forefront in many areas. We were Somerset's first Technology College with a high level of ICT equipment for all departments to use. Though our Specialist School programme has now come to an end, our wonderful ICT and digital facilities remain at the core of our teaching and learning practice.

We have a policy of investing in staff with support, care and training, and are recognised "Investors in People" having been five times awarded the prestigious national accolade for the quality of our staff development and personnel practices. The most recent Investors in People report concluded "Congratulations to all the staff at Buckler's Mead - you have created something special".

Above all, staff who teach here, students who study here and visitors who stay for shorter times are all impressed by the caring, friendly and open atmosphere that is the hallmark of life at Buckler's Mead Academy.
