Pershore High School is a mixed community comprehensive school for students aged 12-18. As a good school with outstanding features it became an Academy in 2011. Its catchment area includes the small ‘market' town of Pershore and many villages in a large rural, mainly commuter area to the east of the M5 between Worcester, Droitwich, Redditch and Evesham. There are 1180 students on roll, with 240 in the Sixth Form. The school is the only high school in the three tier ‘Pershore Pyramid'. There are 3 contributory Middle Schools at Pershore, Pinvin and Drakes Broughton, which in turn draw on 11 smaller First Schools. Liaison between the High and Middle Schools extends beyond transfer and induction to include extensive curriculum and assessment coordination in order to ensure continuity and progression within KS3. We have developed close links with our contributory First and Middle Schools, especially with regard to ICT, Science, Literacy and Numeracy. A number of students join us from Middle Schools outside our catchment area in Years 8 and 9, and from independent and Worcester city 11-16 schools for the Sixth Form. The School opened in 1932 and became a comprehensive school in 1975. Pershore High School is an ‘over-subscribed’ school, highly regarded in its community as a very successful comprehensive school. While our students achieve excellent examination results, we take pride in all their achievements, whether academic or otherwise. Visitors to the school appreciate the calm, friendly and caring atmosphere, good discipline and purposeful ethos. Our primary aim is to enable our students to discover and make the most of their talents. Parents and Governors are very supportive. The school seeks to enhance the opportunities and challenges offered to our students both within and outside the curriculum. My colleagues are very hard-working, energetic and collectively committed to raising standards of student achievement within a caring environment. The school is situated on a very pleasant and attractive 27 acre site (which includes a Nature Conservation Area) to the north of the town. The accommodation includes a Hall, Drama Studio, 11 laboratories, Art and Technology blocks, a large, modern Library and above it a Sixth Form Centre comprising social, study and teaching rooms, a Sports Hall and Gymnasium, Music suite, a Modern Languages suite, five networked computer rooms, refurbished provision for English and Mathematics, and classrooms for Humanities. Our buildings are generally well maintained and 4 rooms in the Technology department have been fully refurbished. An 11 laboratory Science block and floodlit all weather sports pitch opened in September 2005. Pershore is a pleasant country town located in South Worcestershire which is an ideal place to live, with affordable housing. The Cotswold and Malvern Hills are close by, as are excellent shopping facilities in Birmingham, Worcester and Cheltenham. There is good road and rail access to all parts of the country.
