Framlingham College
Framlingham College is a well-established centre of excellence, providing fully co-educational boarding and day schooling from 4 to 18. It is situated in an idyllic rural Suffolk setting within easy striking distance of Ipswich, Cambridge, Colchester and Norwich.
The extensive College facilities create a lively academic, cultural and social environment in which students are encouraged to be industrious and ambitious in their studies, and at the same time courteous, caring and helpful in their demeanour.
The College curriculum offers both breadth and choice. Individual programmes of study provide each pupil with the requisite knowledge and expertise to realise his/her full potential in public examinations, and thereafter to meet the challenge of tertiary education and the 21st Century workplace. The majority of our leavers go on to top British universities, including Oxford and Cambridge, with the diversity of courses chosen reflecting the range of academic opportunities provided by the College.
Regular grades and reports keep everyone updated on pupils' levels of attainment and effort, while enabling the teaching staff generally, and Academic Tutors in particular to celebrate successes, respond quickly to individual problems, and encourage the pursuit of academic excellence. The College is proud of its record in delivering 'value-added education' and results at GCSE, AS and A Level have been consistently in excess of those projected from baseline tests taken in Years 9, 10 and 12.
The fully integrated boarding and day system operating in our seven houses (four boys' and three girls') provides boarders with extra space and privacy in the evenings, while enabling everyone to take full advantage of the rich seam of extra-curricular cultural and sporting activities on offer. Day pupils can slip into tea or prep before an evening performance or rehearsal, or flexi-board in comfortable and familiar surrounds, as and when required.
Most of all, though proud of our wonderful facilities and beautiful location, as well as the breadth of opportunity on offer here, we take pride in the achievements of our pupils. Our aim is that all pupils should achieve the best possible academic passport, acquire a genuine enthusiasm for life and develop a sense of responsibility for each other and the wider community. Our realisation of such ambition is reflected in last year’s 99% ‘A’ Level pass rate (53% at A-B) and 95% GCSE A*-C, in the 138 Duke of Edinburgh awards gained and the 65 pupils who represented the County, Division or Country in a variety of sports.
