PETERBROOK PRIMARY SCHOOL

Peterbrook Primary School is a large, popular and successful Group 3 Primary school that is situated in the south west of Solihull.

There are currently 484 children on roll, organised into a 2 form entry, together with a Nursery Unit and a Unit for Hearing Impaired children. There are 60 teaching and non-teaching staff at Peterbrook and are all supported in their development by our commitment to Investors in People,

Peterbrook has had two very successful OFSTED Reports, in 1997 and recently in 2000. Our academic results are very good, and we have received an Achievement Award for consistently good performance.

Equally important are the Foundation subjects in our belief that Peterbrook children should receive broad and rounded experiences, and in recognition of our successful work we have been awarded ArtsMark Status, .

Peterbrook has also gained International Status through our ground breaking work in France, Romania and China. In 2002 we became the first school in the world twin with a primary school in Beijing. Since then teacher visits, through Professional Development and pupil links have been established to further enhance our international partnership.

Teaching at Peterbrook is a rewarding experience. Our large teaching staff are well supported through their Year teams, Phase and Key Stage Teams, as well as involvement in whole school perspective initiatives. The quality of Teaching is very high, as are our expectations of new staff. We aim to enable talented teachers to develop their individual skills, contribute to the overall quality of teaching and learning, develop and lead curriculum initiatives, and develop the management skills and knowledge to significantly influence standards at Peterbrook as well as an aid individual career progress. All of this is supported by a Performance Management process that identifies areas for professional development and supports self evaluation and career progression.

While all this might sound very formal Peterbrook staff are very warm, friendly supportive and enjoy their teaching.

We expect to appoint talented teachers who are keen, enthusiastic and committed to making a difference to the children in their care, who will bring and share their enthusiasm and talents with others. We currently have 4 Leading Numeracy Teachers and two Leading Literacy teachers, as well as teachers who are involved with LEA initiatives through working parties in the areas of Boys’

Finally, we try hard to ensure that teaching and learning at Peterbrook is fun for both the children and the staff! Good behaviour is something that we insist upon, and this is well supported through a system of rewards and sanctions that allow children and staff to celebrate success. The attitude of our children is excellent, and we all have the highest expectations in terms of standards.

We hope that gives you a flavour of what we are trying to achieve with our children at Peterbrook, and the calibre of person we are seeking to bring their own talents, expertise and enthusiasm to our school.

If you want to know more, then please come and visit us by arranging an appointment through the Secretary.
