Faringdon is situated in the Vale of White Horse, surrounded by historic, pleasant countryside. It is a central, old market town, at present expanding through the building of new housing estates and the development of small industries. It has a population of about 5000 and it is 12 miles from Swindon, 10 miles from Wantage and 18 miles from Oxford. The school was recently inspected in March ’03 and received a very favourable report that is due to be published later in April. We have excellent facilities with a computer suite and from September a multimedia room with a second ICT suite and library. We also expect to have a specialist music and drama room and are investigating developing an Art & Design dedicated room. We are in the process of introducing interactive whiteboards across the school from September 2003. We are also involved in the Schools Sports Coordinators programme which enhances the PE curriculum we can deliver. The school has also gained an excellent reputation locally for our musical and dramatic productions and our work with the local community. Faringdon Community College has just been awarded specialist status for engineering which will involve some exciting initiatives in science and design technology from September and complements the existing research we are doing on teaching science to gifted pupils. This is an exciting time to join our school. We are committed to delivering a creative curriculum using the latest research to enable all pupils to fulfil their potential. We are currently developing our SDP 2003-6 to ensure that our curriculum and structure delivers that creativity. We have already implemented the working conditions ahead of September 03 and are committed to reducing the bureaucratic burden on teachers for example through the use of ICT in planning, TAs supporting teachers and subject co-ordinators in reducing administrative tasks. The school is currently organised in lower and upper school with two classes in Years 3 & 5, and three in Year 4 & 6.
