Filsham Valley School
Filsham Valley is a modern, purpose built 11-18 secondary school, committed to comprehensive education. Succeeding Together (our logo) emphasises the importance of academic success in a supportive environment. The school has a facility for pupils with physical and/or sensory impairment. The ethos of the school is to provide equality of opportunity where all students can achieve.
We are very proud of our new building, set in spacious surroundings. We opened in 1994 with a year 7 intake and have expanded each year. Two new extensions have provided a further range of facilities, including a 6th form suite, opened in November 2001. The school is modern, bright and built to the highest specifications.
We aim to provide high quality education in a totally inclusive environment. The school was purpose-built to accommodate students with physical and/or sensory impairment and these pupils are able to participate in most mainstream activities. Our staff are a committed and hard working team. High expectations and a focus on teaching and learning have created a supportive, friendly and well disciplined school.
A leadership team of six: the Headteacher, two deputy Headteachers and three Assistant Head teachers, manage the school in consultation with the governors. Each member of the team has a range of whole school responsibilities. In addition there are subject and pastoral teams, all represented in the school development team with a responsibility to implement policy throughout the school. Two advanced skills teachers, provide support and professional development of teaching skills. The whole staff team of 64 teachers, 50 teaching assistants and 26 support staff, is dynamic, flexible and embracing of change.
The school boasts superb facilities in all subject areas. Each teaching area has television and video facilities and a range of ICT suites throughout the school provides access to specialist equipment. All teachers have a laptop provided, to support teaching and administration.
We have recognised Investors in People status. All staff have a continuous professional development programme.
There are opportunities for staff to receive training for individual, departmental and whole school targets.
