Amberfield School
We are a small school and our size is one of our great strengths; we have time for everyone. Individual talents are nurtured and academic and social skills are developed in an environment that is safe and happy. Pastoral care is outstanding. We have a strong, supportive community in which we look out for each other. There are many opportunities to get involved and to gain teamwork and leadership skills through a variety of activities and responsibilities.
Music, Fine Art and Textiles, Drama and Sport are all essential elements in the balanced education enjoyed by pupils at Amberfield. An interest in the cultural and practical side of life helps our young people mature and later on sustains them through their adult life.
We are justly proud of the achievements of our pupils, whether those achievements come either in the form of a full set of GCSE 'A*' grades, or in seeing a pupil grow in confidence and ability through help from the school's Learning Support Department. In this secure and friendly environment learning becomes a pleasure and is its own reward.
As a result, Amberfield maintains consistently high academic standards and everyone enjoys learning. There is a happy, lively atmosphere.
Amberfield pupils are known for their self-confidence and courtesy, their ability to concentrate, participate and compete. Whatever their chosen career, the girls are ready to face, with confidence, all that life may hold.
Classrooms
Amberfield has specialist teaching rooms for all subjects. The classrooms are all light and airy, attractively furnished and equipped to accommodate a wide variety of activities. All of the classrooms are within easy reach of one of the four computer hubs and many have their own computer.
Drama Studio
The new Drama Studio provides a special atmosphere where drama and dance ideas can be explored to the full. It is spacious and self-contained, with the latest sound and lighting technology.
Art
The art studio is a self-contained area in the loft space. With vaulted ceilings and roof lights, it is spacious and airy with excellent facilities for work with a wide range of materials, including sculpture, textiles and ceramics. The department is linked to the computer network.
ICT
Amberfield has an extensive network with three teaching classrooms, equipped with sufficient PCs for one per student. There is additional access to the network in the Library and Careers and Art rooms, and all curriculum areas have PCs. These facilities are continually being upgraded and extended.
Sport
Amberfield is set in 22 acres of attractive grounds, within a wooded setting which makes an excellent cross country course. There are three hockey pitches, two rounders pitches, two grass tennis courts and the two hard tennis courts which double up for netball. In the summer a 200m running track is marked onto the field and there are facilities for athletics field events. The spacious school hall is used for badminton, fitness training and high jump.
