A Guide to the English Language CenterIntroductionThe English Language Center of King Abdulaziz University was established in 1975. It is one of the pioneer institutions in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It serves about twenty faculties in the University providing English language skills for more than 6,000 regular students, 17,000 external students, 1,500 qualifying students, and 1000 E-Learning students. VisionThe ELC vision is to maintain continuous development to improve its performance to the ideal extent. MissionThe ELC mission is to teach an extensive course of English prepared by global institutions. ELC uses high technology to encourage students to learn English and cope with the recent sciences. ELC AchievementsStarting next year, all the students of the foundation year are going to study 20 hours of English every week. This, of course, reflects the importance of teaching English to KAU students. This year ELC is getting the acceptance and recommendation of the University Council to upgrade from a center to an institute after getting the final approval of the Supreme Council for Universities. The third achievement is in conjunction with the University Total Quality Management Program, in order to get the ISO Certificate 900 1:2000. The ELC is also about to launch MA TEFL Program, which will be the first of its kind and nature in Saudi universities. The ELC plans to make a teacher training program leading to CELTA which will be another asset to the center. Finally the ELC is a pioneer in the field of e-learning. This year, more than 300 male and female external students were enrolled in our e-Learning program. Next year, we expect around 1,000 external students to be enrolled in this program.
