About Us…Park Wood Junior School is a popular, successful junior school serving pupils from seven to eleven years old. In the Ofsted report (July 2003) the school was described as “a very good school with many excellent features.” The school has been awarded two achievement awards from the Government in 2001 and 2002. It was also awarded the Sports Activemark Award in 2004. It is situated on an attractive site in the middle of Parkwood bounded on its northern side by Foxburrow Wood. As a school we aim to build upon the work of our Infant School colleagues to foster positive attitudes and to enhance the pupils’ self images in a secure, safe environment and in an atmosphere of mutual regard and respect. We strive to develop in our pupils a certain confidence, a sense of personal excellence and a desire to make full use of their own skills and aptitudes. The work of the school complements the efforts of the parents in preparing children for the latter stages of education and for adulthood. The vision for our school is to provide an outstanding education for pupils of all abilities and backgrounds, ensuring we are fully inclusive by recognising pupils who are gifted and talented alongside those who have additional learning needs.Teaching is highly effective and pupils enjoy their education. They are often consulted on key issues and our thriving school council has helped make important contributions to school planning.Pupils’ attitudes and behaviour are very good and they become very mature and sensible young people. Staff are considerate and very supportive; pupils know they are valued and respected and, as a result, they thrive. The Every Child Matters agenda is important to us and underpins the caring ethos of the school Our curriculum is interesting and enjoyable covering a wide range of activities and subjects. The provision of clubs, activities and visits are excellent. Parents are kept very well informed and involved and appreciate the quality of education provided for their children.
