Close to the splendour of the Brecon Beacons National Park and with easy access to the M4, Torfaen offers the opportunity to new teachers to develop their professional skills within a forward looking, supportive Authority that really does put people first.

We provide services for fifty-two schools with over eight hundred teaching staff. We are committed to providing support and advice to Governing Bodies on staffing and recruitment policies through our successful teacher recruitment service. A recent Mori survey confirms that education is highly valued locally, and schools in Torfaen enjoy the support of parents, the local community, business and commerce. The full curriculum range is covered through both the English and Welsh medium. Torfaen is the host Authority for the Greater Gwent Welsh Advisory Service.

The Authority provides well-planned Induction Courses to aid development with advisory staff to support you and monitor progress particularly throughout your first year of teaching. Posts are advertised in the TES and/or the Western Mail, and of course on E-Teach. Welsh medium posts are advertised in Golwg and Y Cymro. Positions in Roman Catholic Aided Schools appear in the Universe or Gazette. We do not Operate a ‘pool system’, but encourage applications for each post individually. The Authority also operates a supply teacher database.
