Plantsbrook is an 11-19 Comprehensive Academy, situated close to the town centre of Sutton Coldfield, which is about eight miles to the north of Birmingham city centre. There are around 1300 students on roll, including well over 200 in the Sixth Form. We are proud to take students of all abilities.
OUR MAIN AIM
Our core purpose is learning and this is central to everything we do at Plantsbrook.
Our main aim is ‘improving student achievement’, in order to fulfil our school motto “Well Taught and Well Behaved.” We encourage our students to ‘be the best you can be’ at all times.
Our recent inspection in September 2011, concluded that we are an “outstanding school”. They began the report by saying that “Plantsbrook is an outstanding school where students attain high academic standards and develop impressive personal qualities. It is a happy school. Strong leadership is at the centre of its success, and the whole school community is encouraged to contribute to its development.” The report is full of praise for the work of the school. We are understandably proud. You can view the whole report on the school website.
This year our GCSE results were outstanding with 97% of students achieving 5 or more top grades. 72% of our students achieved 5 or more A* - C grades, including English and Mathematics. Our value added is outstanding at 1026. These improvements have been as a result of a great team effort and hard work from all staff, students, parents and Governors.
Our results Post 16 are also excellent. We have a strong tradition at A Level with growing provision in vocational subjects. Our total point score per student of almost 900 will undoubtedly make us one of the highest performing Comprehensive Schools in Birmingham again this year. Indeed, in 2009 we were the 12th best performing Community Comprehensive in the country. Our ALIS valued added score is significantly positive. In spite of our success, we know that we can do better still in the future. We are a school which constantly strives to improve.
