Francis Combe Academy
If there were a league table for warm and welcoming schools - Francis Combe School and Community College would almost certainly be found at the top! Relationships both in the Staff Room and in the Classroom have been described by many as “very special”. Visitors often comment on our friendly and caring ethos - which is evident throughout the school as an integral part of the environment.
We are one of just two schools in this area which operate a non-selective admissions policy. This, combined with other local factors, has led us to be recognised as facing challenging circumstances by the Department for Education and Skills. Possibly, this is what makes our staff so special. They are dedicated and fully committed to providing our youngsters with the best possible education and the strongest possible pastoral support…....... Teaching at Francis Combe is incredibly rewarding.
The school prides itself on embracing many new whole school initiatives and is at the cutting edge of trialling and piloting many new schemes. Recently these have included: Piloting the KS3 Strategy, Modularising the whole Curriculum, Learning Styles, School Self-Evaluation and a new Discipline for Learning Policy. (When it comes to new ideas … we really do have the ‘T’ Shirt!)
As a result of the school’s innovative and dynamic forward thinking, teaching is an enriching experience, with many opportunities for personal and professional development. On going training in current classroom initiatives has enabled staff to enhance their planning and pedagogy, improving teaching and learning and ultimately the success of their students. In addition, a number of staff have been supported in their studies to gain further qualifications and as a result have been able to further their career.
So, if you think Francis Combe could be the school for you – we warmly invite you to contact Julie Chapman to find out more!
