At Preston the values that guide our work are simple and clear. The most important person in the school is the learner, the learner is central to all that happens. In order to achieve our motto 'Excellence for all' we think it is crucial for the learning process to be active, fun and personalised to suit all learners. Furthermore, that the curriculum is relevant to each individual and that the outcomes from their time here at Preston prepare them for learning and life beyond the school.
Preston School is one learning community but sub divided in to five schools of learning. The Schools of Learning are as follows:
The purpose and rationale behind this structure is to develop relevant and innovative learning experiences that blur the traditional subject boundaries and therefore help students join learning up between the subjects.
As a Business and Enterprise Specialist Academy we have a special remit, namely to develop and share best practice through our active partnerships with local and regional businesses. It is through these associated learning experiences and alongside their academic attainment that our students make sense of their education and begin to develop other important skills. These "soft skills" include leadership, creativity, problem-solving and cross-cultural literacy which give our students the very best preparation for a life of change in the 21st Century, in order that they achieve economic well-being.
Preston School was inspected by Ofsted in March 2012 and graded as a "good school with outstanding features." What is particularly pleasing about the report is the recognition that students now make greater progress at Preston than similar students nationally and how effectively we prepare our learners for life beyond Preston. Our outstanding features include:
Disabled students and those with special educational needs now do outstandingly well thanks to the very close tracking of their progress and timely and very effective support.
Students feel safe and respond very well to the excellent way in which their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is promoted. The academy looks after them very well.
We were delighted with this judgment and now aspire to be an "outstanding school." Preston School is a happy and vibrant community which was confirmed through the recent Parental Survey. As one parent said, reflecting the views of many, 'Long may the school continue to make our child smile.'
Come and teach at Preston School – a consistently over-subscribed Business & Enterprise Academy.
