Welcome to Fort Pitt Grammar School. We are proud of our history and excited about our future and, having explored our website, we hope that you feel the same! Words and pictures cannot do us justice however, and I would encourage you to visit us to experience our special community and see what we can offer your daughter.
Our belief that students flourish and succeed when they feel happy and secure means that we place great emphasis on community and mutual support. Relationships throughout the school are based on respect and focus on the learning process. As a grammar school our emphasis is on academic success; we want our students to be fully engaged in, and to enjoy, the learning process so that they are able to achieve their personal goals and develop the skills and confidence to make a positive contribution to 21st century society. That confidence can be gained through taking up some of the many leadership opportunities available and by becoming involved in the wide extra-curricular programme and House activities.
Our school is situated in Chatham at the top of Fort Pitt Hill with commanding views of the River Medway. The school’s site and buildings are an interesting mix of traditional and modern and in many ways that sums up our school.
We are anxious to preserve and celebrate our traditions whilst ensuring we are very firmly focused on the future. The school site has housed a fort, hence its name, parts of the ramparts are still visible; it was a military hospital visited twice by Queen Victoria and it was the first Army Medical School established by Florence Nightingale in 1860. Prior to being a school it was a hospital and recuperation facility for servicemen in the two World Wars.
We are an innovative school and have a very clear vision of what we want to achieve; this we aim to do through our four “excellences”: academic excellence (through excellent teaching and learning), excellent community (school, local, global), excellent appearance (uniform and behaviour), excellent environment (school building and grounds). High standards are expected in every aspect of the school.
At our last Ofsted inspection we were delighted to have been graded as outstanding (to see the full report please click HERE). We became an academy in November 2010 and since January 2012 have worked with two other schools as part of the Fort Pitt Trust.
We are certainly excited about the future for our students.
We look forward to showing you what Fort Pitt has to offer your daughter.
