There are currently 608 (as of October 2015 census) pupils at Battling Brook. Classes are organised into single age groups and this policy has enabled favourable class sizes.

The school also benefits from a hard working and dedicated staff, committed to the ongoing drive to improve standards and attainment, supported by an active and involved Governing Body and PTFA.

Our aim is to be fully inclusive and we actively seek to remove barriers to learning.  We believe all children should be able to participate fully in school life regardless of any difficulties that they may experience.  This mean that equality of opportunity must bea reality for our children, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

Our Curriculum

Our BBC (Battling Brook Curriculum) ensures that learning is relevant and interesting for our children.  Through a rich variety of opportunities, learning is brought to life ensuring not only the acquisition of key skills, but also aiming to nurture the love of learning itself. 

Staff use the "Cornerstones" Curriculum Publications in order to inform their BBC topics.  Teachers adapt an alter the published resources in order to ensure that the sessions remain relevant for Battling Brook, therefore ensuring that the needs of our children are at the heart of the planning.

Each year is divided into 6 main units meeting statutory requirements, alongside content designed to engage and motivate each specific group of children.

In order to develop the fundamental skills of reading, we use the Ruth Miskin Literacy strategy as our synthetic systematic phonics programme.  Therefore, ensuring that all of our children have the best start in their reading and writing journey

Our community

Battling Brook Primary School lies at the heart of the local community.  We currently have 589 pupils at the school.

Our pre-school, Little Battlers, takes children from the ages of 3-5, with children accessing the facilities of the main school. 

As an extended school, we also offer wrap around care from 7.45am until 5.45pm for parents and carers requiring affordable childcare solutions. 

We recognise that all children are unique and have their own special gifts and talents.  We also know that children learn in many different ways, and we therefore teach using a variety of methods in order to help our children to realise their full potential. 

We work closely with many local firms and businesses who have helped to transform our learning environment and support us on a practical level.

Our history

Battling Brook is a school linked to history. It lies a short distance from Bosworth, where in 1485, Henry Tudor defeated Richard III to become King of England. The crossed swords on the school emblem represent the battle which took place to conclude the War of the Roses. Legend has it that Richard III's crown, also featured on the school logo, was found under a bush a short distance from the school in what is now Stoke Golding and this is where Henry Tudor was crowned. The brook which runs close to the battlefield, is the same one which runs close to the school. Four hundred and eighty three years later, Battling Brook Primary School was opened on the 8th January 1968.
