Fleckney Sunday School opened in 1830 with 41 boys and 55 girls on the register. This was followed by a Day School on Saddington Road, which was housed in a small building of iron and wood. This was reported to be well attended and a very effective. The Education Act 1870 stated that all children under the age of 10 must receive elementary schooling and Fleckney needed a larger school and more permanent building.
