Overview

Welcome to Primrose Lane Primary School

Primrose Lane is a vibrant and happy learning community with over 200 children aged from 3-11. Our school is set in extensive and beautiful grounds close to the centre of Boston Spa, an attractive village located in a rural setting on the outskirts of the City of Leeds. We are proud of our reputation as a caring and successful school, focused on learning and individual achievement. As soon as a child joins our school we work hard to get to know them well and provide them with the best education possible, helping to nurture and develop them as individuals.

About Us

SCHOOL ETHOS

Our aims

We want Primrose Lane to be a happy and healthy place to learn. For staff, we want our school to be a happy and healthy place to work. We want everyone to be the best they can be.

Our primary aim is to ensure that every member of our school community feels happy, valued and respected, and that each person is treated fairly and well. Everyone has the right to feel safe at all times. We are a caring community with mutual trust and respect for all.

Our expectations

At Primrose Lane we expect everyone to behave well and to help guide our community we use three words to represent our school rules: ready, respectful, and safe.

Behaviour is communication

At Primrose Lane we have a strong safeguarding focus, and this means we believe ‘behaviour is communication’. We always carefully consider and investigate what may be causing concerning behaviour. Behaviour which is distracting for others (not ready), or not respectful, or is harmful physically or emotionally (not safe) will always be addressed. All behaviour is communication and often distracting behaviour is linked to other factors such as the expectations of the learning, an event that has happened, an emotional need or linked to a child’s neurodiversity.

Thrive Approach

At Primrose Lane we use the Thrive Approach to support personal development. It is a specific way of working that helps to develop social and emotional wellbeing, enables children to engage with life and learning. It supports them in becoming more self-assured, capable and adaptable. It helps address any troubled, or troubling, behaviours providing a firm foundation for academic achievement.

Thrive promotes children’s positive mental health by helping adults know how to be and what to do in response to their differing and sometimes distressed behaviour.

Based on established neuroscience, attachment theory and child development, the Thrive Approach provides a profiling and action-planning tool to equip our trained practitioners with the knowledge, insights and resources needed to develop the relationships that help children to flourish and learn.

Our values

Primrose Lane is a values-based school. The focus on 22 values over a two-year rolling programme, provide the principles that guide the thinking and behaviour of the school community and helps to create a strong learning environment, embedding modern British Values, enhancing academic achievement and developing pupils' social and relationship skills.

Our ethos

Together, these aims, expectations and values create our school ethos and shape the ways in which we interact with each other and ensure our school is a happy and healthy place to learn and work, and that we are all the best that we can be.
