About Us

At Merrydale Junior School, we believe that education has the power to transform lives. Our school community is built upon the foundations of respect, equality, and inclusivity. We celebrate and embrace the rich diversity of our students, families, and staff members.

We take great pride in providing an outstanding learning environment that nurtures curiosity, inspires creativity, and fosters a love for lifelong learning. Our dedicated teachers go above and beyond to create engaging lessons that challenge and inspire our students. We believe in the importance of an inclusive education that supports the needs of all learners.

At Merrydale, we firmly believe that strong partnerships between school, home, and the wider community are vital for our students’ success. We encourage parents and carers to actively engage in their child’s education and invite you to attend our regular workshops, events, and parent-teacher meetings. Together, we can ensure that each child receives the support they need to thrive.

We are incredibly proud of the achievements of our students both inside and outside the classroom. From academic excellence to sporting triumphs, our students consistently demonstrate their talents and passions. Our extensive range of extra-curricular activities provides opportunities for students to explore new interests, develop their skills, and make lifelong friendships.

The well-being and happiness of our students are paramount here at Merrydale. We have a strong pastoral care system in place to ensure that each student feels safe, supported, and valued. Our dedicated team of staff members is always on hand to listen, advise, and guide students through any challenges they may face.

At Merrydale we aim to provide a safe, caring learning environment for all working together with you as families and the community whilst delivering a broad, balanced and creative curriculum celebrating the diversity of our world.

Our school motto is ‘Be the Best You Can Be’ and we strive to embed this attitude in all aspects of our school -adults and children alike.

Our school values are: Empathy, Curiosity, Courage, Perseverance, Aspiration, Inclusive, Responsibility.

We focus on 6 Learning behaviours alongside this:

  • Teamwork
  • Self-managers
  • Reflective learner
  • Resourceful thinker
  • Effective participator
  • Independent enquirer

We have high aspirations for all of our children and through the curriculum, assemblies, school rules, expectations of adults and children we strive to ‘live’ this ethos.

We employ a pastoral support team as well as a Parent link worker. These roles are key to our ethos as they support the ‘whole’ child. We are committed to supporting children and families with whatever their personal needs may be so that the end result is that their child can thrive and learn in school. We believe that this can be done without compromising on the expectation that all children come to school to learn and to be expected to behave in a respectful way to all adults and children. We will support them with their individual needs bit we will not compromise on the accepted standard. Mutual respect is key to our philosophy.
