Overview

The school opened in October 2014 to reception and year one children in newly refurbished buildings at Gipsy Lane, Leicester.  The Sikh ethos school opened under the Governments Free Schools programme and will provide for Leicester children from all backgrounds with at least 50% of places available for non-Sikh children. The website aims to give you an insight into some of the work that goes on in our school and the quality education we deliver to the children. We want our children to enjoy their time at Falcons and to be successful in whatever way they can.

At Falcons Primary we emphasises the need to work as a team in a caring, safe and friendly environment. Falcons Primary school has been driven by a community group with a clear vision which will nurture creative and outstanding individuals to realise their full potential, academically, socially, physically and spiritually.

We see our school contributing towards the fostering of shared values, community cohesion and well being within society at large. Currently the Sikh faith is not represented in the Leicester ‘family of schools’ and parents who wish their children to have an education in a faith environment and are at a disadvantage as spaces available for them are far and few.

Falcons’ Primary School will be a two form entry – non-selective community primary school offering places to 420 learners when at full capacity, aged 4-11 underpinned by our universal Vision, Values and Virtues derived from the Sikh faith.  Our specialism is Physical Literacys which will help improve longer-term prospects and life chances.

* reflective individuals.

SIKH ETHOS
The school draws on the teaching of the Sikh faith and is committed to providing not only an academic education, but one that will also encompass an underlying message of unity, equality and respect. High morals, discipline, love, compassion and selfless service towards all regardless of faith, gender or colour. Falcon School will embrace a universal, inclusive approach to spirituality.

AIMS
To achieve our vision, we aim for all pupils, staff, governors and parents to:

Work in unity to make Falcons School a welcoming, stimulating and successful school. Encourage good manners, self-discipline and the desire to be enthusiastic learners who grow into forward thinking responsible citizens who respect, value and care for themselves and others.
Provide an ethos with clear boundaries and expectations, enabling all children to succeed and to reach their full potential confidently, in a safe and supportive environment.
Become excellent lifelong learners who are independent and prepared for the wider world and aim high to achieve aspirational goals.

Our Curriculum

With the new National Curriculum being introduced by the Government this year (2014-15) we have been working hard on our school approach and provision for pupils. As part of this work we have decided to implement the new Cornerstones Curriculum, a nationally recognised approach for delivering outstanding learning opportunities for children.

WHAT IS THE CORNERSTONES CURRICULUM?
The Cornerstones Curriculum is a creative and thematic approach to learning that is mapped to the new 2014 Primary National Curriculum to ensure comprehensive coverage of national expectations. Our new curriculum will be delivered through Imaginative Learning Projects (ILPs) which will provide a rich menu of exciting and motivating learning activities that make creative links between all aspects of our children’s learning. We believe children learn better when they are encouraged to use their imagination and apply their learning to engaging contexts. Our new curriculum will provide lots of learning challenges throughout the academic year that will require children to solve problems, apply themselves creatively and express their knowledge and understanding effectively across the curriculum. Cornerstones also provide a rigorous essential skills framework that outlines the end of year expectations in all subjects. These essential skills are tied to activities and are age related so that staff can track children’s progress and identify their individual learning needs.

HOW IT WORKS?
Children will progress through four stages of learning in each ILP – Engage, Develop, Innovate and Express.

Why do we need a Sikh Faith School?

Whilst other communities have their own faith schools in Leicester, the Sikh faith is not currently represented and there are not enough spaces in other faith schools for our children and therefore they are at a dis-advantage when it comes to education in a faith environment.
