Overview

Fordway Centre (FWC) is a 5 – 11 Pupil Referral Unit (PRU), (also known as a short stay school)  currently located in a comfortable temporary building in Guildford but will be moving to our brand new, purpose built school in Ashford, Surrey, in September 2024.  The school is based on a single site, for 24 pupils at KS1 and 2.

From September 2024 you will join us at our stunning brand new purpose-built school where innovation meets inspiration, our facilities are designed to empower the staff and students, fostering a dynamic learning atmosphere where creativity and collaboration thrive.

Our aim is to reduce the numbers of pupils who are permanently excluded from school by offering mainstream schools an alternative to exclusion. We work closely with our Mainstream School partners to support early intervention so as to avoid permanent exclusion through a range of interventions so pupils can be supported, either within their mainstream school or at the college.

FWC became part of the Inclusive Education Trust (IET) which formed in September 2021 and works alongside Reigate Valley College (Reigate) and the Wey Valley College (Guildford). So whilst you get the benefits of working within a small and supportive setting, by working so closely with our other PRU’s we also provide you with a wide network of support, excellent opportunities for continued professional development and diverse opportunities for career progression.

About Us

The Fordway Centre is a progressive, innovative short stay school, catering for the needs of students who have difficulty accessing a mainstream curriculum.

Our temporary location is adjacent to the school grounds of WVC in Southway, Guildford, GU2 8WZ.    From September 2024 the College will re open in our normal location which is in close proximity to the town of Ashford Middlesex, TW15 3DU.  Both locations are accessible by road (M25) and rail.

We aim to provide high quality education for all our pupils. Pupils are offered a broad and balanced curriculum. Their attainment is assessed regularly, in order to monitor their progress in both curriculum and behaviour, and specific learning and behaviour targets are set. Pupils are encouraged to access the curriculum, to be independent and to learn strategies to control their own behaviour.

We have an excellent record of providing good CPD and have a proven record of supporting staff developing them from unqualified teachers through to the completion of their NQT year. We have supported many staff in their career progression either within the trust or with partner mainstream schools.

Whilst our learning environment is good there are plans in place to improve and develop the school site in due course.

We were last inspected by Ofsted in June 2021 and were judged as ‘Outstanding’ in all areas.
