It gives me great pleasure to introduce you to Greensward College. We have a first-class, dedicated staff and excellent facilities. At Greensward College we place great emphasis on academic and personal achievement. We provide a well-balanced education for all our students and expect the highest possible standards. We aim to achieve excellence. The needs of each individual student are reviewed throughout their college lives and one of our fundamental aims is to produce responsible students who possess the skills for further study or employment, who are equipped to live rich personal lives and who will play a full part in society. Our examination results have once again placed us alongside the best comprehensive schools in Essex, with 70% gaining five or more GCSE passes at grades A*-C. A high proportion of our students either stays on to our Sixth Form or goes on to further education. The Sixth Form opened in September 1995 and, in 2001, our fifth cohort of ‘Advanced’ level students has gained an average of 17.5 UCAS points each.We are very proud of the achievements of our students and staff. The college was named as a Centre of Excellence for Sport by the Grant Maintained Schools’ Association, as well as being one of only four hundred secondary schools to be awarded the Sportsmark standard. We are also very pleased to have been awarded Investor in People status, as this is a public acknowledgement of our commitment to the care and development of all the people at our college, staff and students alike. In January 1999, we were particularly proud to receive a prestigious Charter Mark, awarded for excellence, in recognition of the high standards of support and service that we offer to our students, parents, staff and members of the local community. The governors have set ambitious targets for the college and, accordingly, from September 1999, Greensward College became the first Cisco Regional Network Academy. This enabled the college to offer students and other members of the local community, industry- standard ICT qualifications which are held in high regard by the information communication industry.College facilities were further enhanced by the opening in Spring 2000 of a splendid, new Lifelong Learning Centre, offering excellent library, careers and ICT provision, including an Integrated Learning Suite, for all students. The college is open for sixteen hours a day, fifty-two weeks a year, offering a wide variety of the latest learning opportunities. Greensward has also introduced a new college ‘year’, replacing the conventional three terms with five terms of equal length, to improve still further the quality of teaching and learning. We are a forward-looking, innovative college in which well-proven traditional values are allied to the best of modern thinking and teaching methods. I am proud to be the Principal of Greensward College and to be associated with its successes, ideals and ambitions.
