Summercroft Junior School is a two form entry junior school. The majority of the classes have 30 children in each. We share a spacious site with Summercroft Infant School but have our own active and supportive governing body. Every classroom has its own toilet and cloakroom facilities along with an outside door to the paved areas. There is a main hall, separate dining room, well-stocked library, medical room and a demountable classroom block for music and technology. The school has an active parent fundraising committee which organises events for both children and parents. We have recently been accredited as a Hertfordshire Healthy School and achieved Investors in People standard in July 2004.The school is pioneering the use of tablet PC's and wireless networking and has recently purchased 18 machines. In addition each class has at least three computers, a colour printer and an audio listening centre while one year 6 classroom has been set up to use Interactive Whiteboard technology. The school is well stocked with audiovisual equipment, photocopier and copy printer. All staff at the school currently enjoy an annual Recognition Day of their choice in addition to the County Occasional Day.We had a very successful OfSTED inspection in January 2003. The report is available on the OfSTED website. Other useful information is available from the school website. There are 10.5 full time staff including the Head and Deputy Head. This allows us the flexibility to release coordinators, give PPA time to staff, support pupils with Special Educational Needs and set for Maths and English in years 5 and 6.The support staff play a vital role in the day-to-day running of the school. Teaching Assistants provide support to all children and teachers. They also provide extra playground supervision in the morning. If you would like to visit the school please contact the secretary, to make arrangements. We look forward to hearing from you.
