Key Stage 2 SATs levels, CATS tests and in-house reading and spelling testing all reveal that our students' literacy and numeracy skills are below the national average on intake. However close monitoring of attainment data demonstrates impressive value added in many curriculum areas at each Key Stage. Students from ethnic minorities achieve as well or better than those of white UK origin. There is no significant gender difference in attainment levels. The school has developed an enviable reputation for its sporting achievements. There is a strong commitment to the principle of sport for all and inclusion rather than exclusion. This has resulted not only in a supportive ethos but outstanding achievement. Girls' basketball has been a key feature of this and our teams have made a clean sweep of the Hertfordshire cups in all age groups from U13 to U19 in many of the last few years - a unique achievement. They were English champions for 1998 at U16 and U19 level and fifth and sixth nationally at U13 and U14 levels respectively. The U16 represented England in an international competition held in 1999 in Jerusalem. They were again English champions at U16 level in 2001 and reached the national finals in several age groups in 2002. The girls were also 1998 St Albans netball champions at U16 level and have continued that success at several age groups. The boys too have had some notable successes, especially in five and six-a-side football, and are highly rated within the County at basketball. As the numbers have increased, boys are now performing very well in eleven-a-side football too.
