Poplar Primary School

Welcome to the Poplar Primary School Career Site

Poplar Primary School is a growing 3 form entry school serving the community in Morden and Merton Park, on the south-western fringes of London. The school first opened in 1932 and the original building still stands, although it has been much enlarged and improved including the recent addition of a new school hall and teaching block. For many years the school was a first school in the Merton 3-tier system, with children moving on, after Year 3, to middle schools elsewhere in the borough. Since reorganisation of the borough's schools in 2001 we are now an all-through primary school where children who join our thriving Nursery are able to stay until they move on to secondary school at the end of Year 6. Although we are only 5 minutes walk from busy Morden town centre with its Tube and Bus Station, the school is set in a quiet residential area. At the rear of the school our lovely grounds include a playground, playing field, an allotment, a nature reserve, which we call The Wild Area (a small part of which has been converted into a shaded play/sitting area); a multisports court, which the children know as "The Multi"; an Outdoor Classroom. Beyond these is a large public park to which we have direct access through the multi-sports court (by way of a gate that is normally kept locked, but to which we have the key). The multi-sports court, the outdoor classroom and the wild area were converted from a row of tennis courts that had long ago fallen into disrepair.
