Overview

Ashby Hill Top Primary School is situated in the heart of Ashby de la Zouch, a small market town in North West Leicestershire. We pride ourselves on being at the centre of the community, providing a safe, happy, welcoming environment for children, parents and visitors.
At Hill Top we believe in putting the children at the very heart of everything we do. We aim for our curriculum opportunities to be creative, broad and varied so that all children can achieve their best and are motivated to continue their learning beyond their years at Hill Top.

We strive to build strong and purposeful relationships with families. We operate an “open door” policy and we welcome feedback and comments. We also value the support that families give us so that we can work in partnership for the benefit of the children.

On 1st October 2012, Ashby Hill Top Primary School became an Academy. This makes little difference in the day to day running of the school. The biggest change was the way in which school is funded. Hill Top children still take the same national tests as children in other schools and our curriculum will remain. More information on academies is available at www.education.gov.uk

Hill Top was most recently inspected by OFSTED in April 2013. We were delighted that the inspectors could see our many strengths and we were graded “Outstanding” in all aspects. The Hill Top team are dedicated to providing the children with first-class care and high-quality learning activities and experiences. The supportive ethos within the school enables pupils of all abilities to thrive as they grow and develop.

About Us

Hill Top is a busy, friendly and hard-working school. The children behave well and are keen to learn. A dedicated staff team is well supported by a governing body that visit school regularly and have a genuine interest in supporting the Head Teacher, staff, families and children. We are proud of the relationships we have built with parents, who take an active interest in their children’s school life, not least through the Friends of Hill Top who organise the social and fund-raising aspects of school.

Ashby Hill Top truly is a happy school where everyone is valued and supported to achieve their best. We are the school of choice for many families – over 45% of our children live outside our catchment area.

Our Values and Ethos

It is our wish that the lives of all who leave Ashby Hill Top will have been enhanced by their experience.

We aim to provide a caring, stimulating and safe school where achievements are celebrated and everyone is valued and shown respect.

We do this through providing:

  • A secure environment where everyone has a voice and is equipped with the life skills to keep themselves and others safe
  • A structure which enables them to question and evaluate all areas relating to their emotional and physical health and to make informed choices
  • An enjoyable, creative, relevant and evolving curriculum that motivates children to become lifelong learners and encourage every child to find and develop their own personal strengths
  • Opportunities that will enable every child to nurture self-worth and develop skills to make a positive contribution to the community and where children, parents, school and the community work in mutually beneficial partnership.
  • The highest quality teaching and learning to enable all children to achieve excellence and lay strong foundations for the future. To value ourselves, others and the environment through positive relationships, actions and attitudes.

Ofsted 2013- OUTSTANDING

This is an outstanding school.

• Achievement is outstanding throughout the school in reading, writing and mathematics, for all pupils regardless of ability or background.

• Pupils’ attainment was above average for several years in the predecessor school and continues to rise.

• Excellent teaching helps pupils to make rapid progress in their learning in a range of subjects.

• Teachers are particularly skilled in giving different pupils work that is at just the right level for them. During lessons, they continually check up on progress to ensure that all are doing as well as possible.

• Pupils behave extremely well and are very keen to learn.

• Excellent relationships between pupils themselves, and with the adults, underpin the school’s many strengths. Pupils feel extremely safe in school, and have great trust in the adults to look after them.

• There is outstanding provision for pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

• Children get an excellent start to their schooling because of the outstanding provision in the Early Years Foundation Stage.

• A constant focus by leaders and managers on the quality of teaching and the achievement of all pupils ensures that both are excellent. Very effective procedures, to keep a detailed track of each pupil’s progress, greatly enhance this.
