St David’s Catholic College is an ideal step between high school and university, employment, or an apprenticeship.

Situated on a single campus in Penylan, learners get to enjoy independence and freedom, the first time in their lives that their education is now in their hands.

Known for its academic performance, St David’s only allows students aged 16 to 19 years old. This allows St David’s teachers to be specific and specialist in their knowledge of what that age group needs, and entirely focused on the curriculum involved with their subject, without distraction.

St David’s also has a strong reputation for its pastoral care. All learners have a pastoral tutor, who guides and supports them during their time in college. Additionally, the College has excellent well-being support as well as dedicated guidance to careers and employment opportunities.

St David’s Catholic Sixth Form College was established in 1987 by the Archdiocese of Cardiff. It provides sixth-form provision at a single campus located in the Penylan area of the city. The college caters for around 1,500 full time learners, nearly all of whom are between 16 and 19 years of age.

The college offers learners a choice of around 50 A level courses, level 3 vocational courses, and some level 2 courses.

Over four hundred learners progress to university each year, with over forty percent to top Russell Group universities. In the 2019 Estyn Inspection, the college was rated as excellent for standards achieved by learners, as well as for leadership and management.

The college recruits learners from a wide range of schools, including four Catholic secondary schools. Learners from a diverse range of socio-economic, ethnic and religious backgrounds attend the college. Thirty-eight per cent of learners live in some of the most disadvantaged areas in Wales as defined by the first quintile of the Welsh index of multiple deprivation. Thirty-five per cent of the college population are from minority ethnic backgrounds.
