Kuwait Education Ministry unveils job openings for expat teachers
Many people who move abroad to teach are driven by a desire to experience what it’s like to live and work in a country vastly different from their own, in terms of its culture, traditions and approach to education.
Moving abroad to teach can be challenging. However, ask any teacher who has ‘been there, done that,’ and they’ll tell you that the rewards far outweigh the challenges.
If you’ve been considering teaching internationally and crave a culture distinctly different to the one at home, Kuwait’s Education Ministry has just unveiled a series of job openings for expat teachers.
It may not get as much press as its powerful and glitzy Arabian neighbours, but Kuwait – a modest country perched at the tip of the Persian Gulf – is strongly cementing itself as a sound choice for British teachers.
Citing Al-Qabas, Arab Times online writes that the Ministry of Education has officially announced local contracts with expat teachers across 11 subjects: English, French, maths, chemistry, physics, biology, geology, decoration, physical education, art and music.
The ministry states that candidates must not be aged over 45, while women who apply for physical education should be 32 years-old or younger. Candidates who hold either a master’s or doctorate degree will not be expected to undergo mandatory experience, however their bachelor’s degree grade point average (GPA) should not be rated lower than ‘Good.’
Also exempt from the working experience condition are non-Kuwaitis who wish to teach physical education, music, art and decoration. Other applicants – including people who hold a degree in education and those without a degree in education – should have a minimum of two and three years of working experience, respectively.
Kuwait is a great choice for British teachers wanting to experience living in the Middle East. Not only does the country boast a rich history, fascinating culture and beautiful beaches, but its schools are some of the best in the world, with enviable salaries to match.
