York

Askham Bryan College is a specialist land-based college based across the North of England with centres in York, Middlesbrough, Saltaire, Wakefield and Newcastle.

We offer a wide-ranging curriculum to our Further Education students, including Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Management, Countryside and the Environment, Engineering, Equine, Floristry, Motorsport, Outdoor Adventure Sport, Sports Development, Coaching and Fitness, Uniformed Public Services and Veterinary Nursing. We also have a thriving University Centre at York offering a range of courses from Foundation degrees to Masters level.

Due to the increase in student numbers a Farm Technician is required to ensure resources are ready and available in a timely manner to allow for the smooth running of high quality practical lessons.

The main requirement of this role is to assist the Farm and Curriculum team in overseeing the care and welfare of the college stock and provide a student-centred learning environment in order to meet the needs of the Agriculture students as defined by the curriculum staff.

Duties will include:

  • Assisting with the day-to-day routine husbandry and maintenance duties on the farm.
  • Providing a student-centred environment.
  • Assisting in the growth and development of the commercial activities of the Farm.
  • Providing teaching staff with resources that fully meet the needs of the curriculum.
  • In collaboration with, and at the direction of curriculum staff, assist in the delivery of some practical elements of the curriculum.
  • Supervising students whilst on the Farm during sessions.

The role is full time, working 37 hours per week during term time only, therefore the salary will be pro-rata for part year working.

Applicants should have a Level 3 agriculture related qualification, along with Level 2 in numeracy and literacy. Essentially you should have demonstrable experience of working on a commercial farm and have a customer focussed, approachable outlook with the willingness to work flexibly as part of the team.

We offer an inclusive, dynamic, challenging and rewarding place to work and our colleagues enjoy a range of generous benefits including excellent annual leave allocation, ample free parking, canteen facilities, support for continuous professional development, Local Government Pension and a range of employee benefits as well as the opportunity to work within spectacular grounds.

Successful applicants will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check.
