The successful candidate:

We are looking to recruit an exceptional candidate to the role of Teacher of History and Politics to join our team at Magna Academy. This will provide an exciting and challenging opportunity for an NQT or ambitious practitioner wishing to further develop their career, to build upon the existing track record of success within History and enhance the Politics curriculum and make a real impact on further driving up attainment and progress within Humanities.

We are looking for a highly motivated, outstanding classroom practitioner with a strong presence, who is ambitious for students, their colleagues and the academy. They will be an excellent teacher of History and/or Politics, who has a passionate belief in the ability for all to succeed. They will be a conscientious and enthusiastic team player who will contribute to the vibrant life of Magna Academy.

The History Department at Magna Academy consists of three dedicated History teachers who each have their own specialist area of interest. History is a highly popular subject among students, which means there is opportunity for teaching key stages 3, 4 and 5. At Magna Academy, our History curriculum is compulsory until students finish Year 9. Students are taught by passionate, expert teachers who are committed to securing progress both in terms of academic achievement and global awareness and understanding. This History curriculum is full of opportunities for specialist teachers to immerse students in challenging content and literature to enhance all students’ cultural capital as well as their historical knowledge. The department currently follows the AQA GCSE and A-level syllabuses with the options of Germany, the Cold War in Asia, Health and the People and Norman England at key stage 4 and Britain, Wars and Welfare and America, Making of a Superpower. Another reason for the department’s popularity is the range of extra-curricular opportunities including visiting speakers, local visits and trips further abroad organised each year by the team. We are looking for a candidate who would be willing to contribute to both the academic and the extra-curricular success of the department.

The successful candidate will be able to offer engagement, stretch, support and challenge to all learners. They will be able to accurately assess the progress and achievement of students, groups and cohorts and provide appropriate provision to ensure progress of all is maximised.

Ultimately, we are looking for a committed teacher with an uncompromising belief that all students deserve an outstanding education. They will uphold our inclusive ethos and provide opportunities for all students to progress well.
