North Star Academy Trust is a small multi-academy trust that was set up with the ambition to improve the SEND provision in the South West and provide as many young people as possible with a bespoke, specialist education that is tailored to each individual's needs. North Star 180° is a special school supporting children and young people aged 4 to 19 with SEMH needs to achieve their educational potential and live positive, fulfilling lives.
Are you looking for a new challenge? The opportunity to make a difference and enrich the lives of children with behaviour needs? We are looking for a positive, enthusiastic and committed Engagement Tutor to join our team in a safe, secure and welcoming environment.
The position involves responding to and de-escalating crisis situations as they arise, supporting pupils with their learning in classroom, collaboratively developing personalised plans for pupils, recording and monitoring data. This position would be suited to a candidate with a proven track record of pastoral care, youth work or school-based behaviour management experience. Students with SEMH needs can display challenging behaviour so exceptional behaviour management skills with the ability to be supportive are a must.
The successful applicants will:
- Tutor and support pupils who have complex SEN needs with a primary need of Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties.
- Support children from a range of ages, backgrounds and abilities.
- Effectively engage students in their studies.
- Play a proactive and pastoral role in positive behaviour management as well as interacting with the young people during extra-curricular times, encouraging them to participate in the social and academic life of the school.
- Be flexible, adaptable and have a positive attitude to working in a structured environment.
- Effectively communicate with colleagues.
- Have skills of empathy, listening, communication and the ability to respond to unexpressed need.
- Willingness to undertake the further training that will be offered.
