About us and the role

Bring creativity to life and inspire the next generation of makers and designers!

We are looking for a proactive and skilled technician to join our creative and busy Design Technology department.

Working across our DT and food spaces, you will be responsible for setting up materials, maintaining tools and equipment, supporting the preparation of displays and exhibitions, and ensuring students can enjoy practical lessons in a safe and inspiring environment.

At the heart of our school is a belief in nurturing the whole child through high standards, strong character, and spiritual growth.

If you have a practical skill set, a creative mindset, and a desire to make a real difference to students’ learning experiences, we would love to welcome you to the team.

School visits are welcomed and encouraged. Please contact the school to arrange a suitable time.

Avanti Fields School is an all-through, faith-designated (Hindu) state school which welcomed the first intake of Year 7 students in September 2018, and first intake of Nursery and Reception students in September 2022. The school is rapidly expanding and will grow year by year to a full cohort of 1,320. This is an exciting time to join the school as it continues its journey to outstanding.

The staff at Avanti Fields School are passionate about our school and are relentlessly focused on improving the achievement and opportunities for all our students. • Educational excellence

• Character formation

What will you do?

  • Support the preparation, setup, and safe storage of materials, tools, and equipment for practical Design Technology and Food Technology lessons.
  • Provide guidance and demonstrations to students and staff on the correct and safe use of machinery, tools, and resources.
  • Maintain and repair tools and machinery, manage stock levels, and liaise with suppliers as needed.
  • Create and maintain risk assessments, support classroom organisation, and contribute to health and safety procedures.
  • Assist with displays, practical lessons and the presentation of student work across the department and wider school environment.

Why should you apply

Avanti exists to help each person become a well-rounded human being through intellectual, moral and spiritual growth, and so make the world a better place.

You will be working in a fantastic environment, with:

  • Great opportunities for professional development
  • LGPS pension scheme (subject to eligibility)
  • O2 discounts, Specsavers corporate eye test vouchers
  • Eligible for NUS Card and CSSC membership
  • Well-being programs (retreats, yoga, wellness apps)

What are we looking for?

  • Experience and excellent track record in the field of health and safety in a support role
  • Working knowledge of Design Technology machines and processes
  • The ability to make decisions in consultation with the Class Teacher and colleagues as appropriate
  • Commitment to the safeguarding and welfare of all students
