The Opportunity
Are you currently teaching Automotive Studies or working in the automotive industry and considering your next step?
Barnsley College is seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Automotive Lecturer to join our dynamic Engineering department. This is an exciting opportunity for both experienced Lecturers and industry professionals who are passionate about sharing their expertise and shaping the next generation of skilled technicians and engineers.
You will deliver high-quality teaching, learning and assessment across Automotive qualifications from Level 1 to Level 3, including T Level programmes. Your real-world experience will be invaluable as you support learners in developing practical competence, technical understanding and the professional behaviours needed for employment, apprenticeships or higher education.
Your teaching will include core topics such as:
• Vehicle maintenance and repair
• Diagnostics and fault finding
• Electrical and electronic systems
• Emerging technologies, including hybrid and electric vehicles
You will plan and deliver engaging lessons that meet awarding body requirements, reflect current industry standards and ensure every learner feels supported, challenged and motivated to achieve.
Working closely with Course Leaders and colleagues, you will contribute to curriculum development, ensuring our programmes keep pace with evolving automotive technologies and employer expectations. From planning schemes of work to assessing learner progress and providing constructive, high quality feedback, you will play a central role in learner success.

About You
We’re keen to hear from individuals with strong technical expertise in Automotive Studies who can engage, motivate and inspire learners. You will have experience in vehicle maintenance, diagnostics, repair and working with electrical or electronic systems, along with an understanding of modern automotive technologies such as hybrid and electric vehicles.
You should feel confident delivering both hands on workshop sessions and structured classroom theory and be able to create a learning environment that is safe, inclusive and supportive for all students. Strong communication skills and the ability to motivate learners of all abilities to achieve their full potential are essential.
Required
• Degree (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant subject
• GCSE English and Maths (Grade A–C) or equivalent Level 2 qualification
• Level 3 qualification (or above) in Automotive Maintenance, Repair or a related field
• Relevant experience of working within the Automotive industry
• Experience delivering learning, training or mentoring to a range of learners
