The Opportunity
Barnsley College is seeking an experienced and motivated Carpentry and Joinery Trainer to join our Apprenticeships team within Engineering and Construction. This role plays a vital part in supporting apprentices to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to succeed in their trade and achieve successful completion of their apprenticeship.
You will be responsible for planning, coordinating, delivering and assessing learning across the Carpentry and Joinery apprenticeship standards, supporting apprentices both in college and in the workplace. A key focus of the role is preparing learners for end point assessment while ensuring off the job training requirements are met and recorded accurately.
Working closely with employers, you will act as the main point of contact for a caseload of apprentices, building strong relationships and ensuring all parties are clear about expectations at each stage of the apprenticeship journey. You will contribute to quality assurance activity and support continuous improvement across the curriculum area.
About You
You will be an experienced Carpentry and Joinery professional who is passionate about developing others and supporting apprentices to succeed. You will be confident working with employers and learners, able to manage competing priorities and committed to maintaining high standards of teaching, learning and assessment.
You will be organised, self motivated and adaptable, with strong communication and interpersonal skills. A reflective approach to practice and a willingness to embrace new initiatives to improve performance are essential, as is a commitment to safeguarding, equality and inclusive learning.

Required
• NVQ Level 3 in Carpentry and Joinery or equivalent occupational qualification (or Level 4 in a related field)
• Assessor qualification
• Level 4 teaching qualification or willingness to work towards
• GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent Level 2 qualification)
• At least two years’ relevant industry experience
• Experience of assessing learners in the workplace
• Understanding of apprenticeship standards and assessment requirements
Knowledge of apprenticeship compliance procedures
• Good IT skills, including Word, Excel and online systems
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with employers and apprentices
• Internal Verification qualifications and experience of e portfolio systems are desirable.
