Safeguarding & Pastoral Support Officer

Wellesley Park Primary School in Wellington is home to 300 children, including Wellesley Park Explorers Nursery.
Wellesley Park Primary School is seeking a committed, compassionate, and skilled Pastoral Support Lead, who will also provide key support as a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) Assistant. This is a vital role at the heart of our school community, helping to ensure that every child feels safe, supported, and able to thrive.
Key Responsibilities - Pastoral Support
• Provide first-response pastoral support to pupils.
• Work closely with families, including completing home visits.
• Support attendance by helping address persistent absence and punctuality concerns.
• Deliver SEMH (Social, Emotional & Mental Health) interventions and monitor pupil progress.
Safeguarding & Child Protection
• Act as a key member of the safeguarding team.
• Assist the DSL in managing referrals, attending multi-agency meetings, and maintaining detailed safeguarding records.
• Support staff with safeguarding queries and promote effective safeguarding practice across the school.
• Contribute to policy updates, safeguarding monitoring, and staff training processes.

• Has experience working with children, families, or in a pastoral/safeguarding capacity.
• Communicates effectively, calmly, and with empathy.
• Understands child protection, safeguarding procedures, and attendance legislation.
• Can build strong, supportive relationships with pupils and families.
• Works proactively, independently, and as part of a team.
• Is resilient, organised, and committed to inclusive education.
• Holds a full driving licence and has access to a vehicle for home visits.

Hours & Salary:
The post is for 20 hours per week, Monday to Friday, term time plus all inset days paid weeks . Grade 12 on the School Support Staff Pay Scale £14.82 to £16.62 per hour (£28,598 to £32,061 per annum FTE). Fixed Term Contract until 31st August 2027 in the first instance with a view to becoming permanent. Employer pension contribution: 24.4%
