Applications are invited from practising and committed Catholics for the post of Deputy Headteacher at St John Vianney Catholic Primary School. We are a large two form entry primary school in the west end of Newcastle who is proud to serve and represent its local community. St John Vianney is part of the Bishop Bewick Catholic Education Trust, a family of 34 primary 5 secondary schools. This is an exciting time to join our supportive, and growing team.

The local governing committee, on behalf of BBCET, are seeking to appoint a passionate and dedicated classroom teacher as Deputy Headteacher to strengthen our team and help us in our collective mission:

“Through following Jesus, we aim to be a caring, happy school, where everyone is valued and appreciated and can reach their true potential. We hope to act justly, love tenderly, and walk humbly with our God”

At St John Vianney, we are guided by scripture and John 10:10 is particularly close to our hearts, “I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.” We all play an active part in ensuring that our school is a positive Catholic community, a place of love and learning for our families, staff and pupils alike. The staff have high expectations for all the pupils in their care, are passionate and committed to supporting all our pupils, especially the most vulnerable. We embrace the teachings of Paul Dix: Ready, Respectful, Safe; as such our pupils are extremely well behaved, work hard and have a real desire to learn.

We are looking for a Deputy Headteacher who:

• Is a committed and practising Catholic who values the distinctive nature of Catholic Education.

• Is an exemplary classroom practitioner with high expectations of both achievement and behaviour.

• Is innovative and forward thinking with a passion for driving developments and initiatives in teaching and learning.

• Is able to work collaboratively with the Headteacher, Senior Leadership Team and Governors

• Sets targets and plans rigorously to ensure that all children thrive and achieve their full potential.

• Leads by example and has high expectations of everyone, forming positive relationships which challenge, motivate and inspire others.

• Has an ambition to actively support staff and pupils including those pupils with additional needs and those who are most vulnerable, especially all pupils with SEN.

St John Vianney Catholic Primary School offers:

• A diverse, vibrant and inclusive school rated Outstanding in all areas by CSI in March 2023.

• Children who are happy and enthusiastic with positive attitudes towards learning rated Good in all areas by Ofsted in April 2024.

• A professional, friendly and enthusiastic staff team who are committed to enabling all children to flourish.

• A strong commitment to professional development and leadership opportunities.

• Supportive parents and a dedicated and committed Local Governing Committee with strong links in our parish and community.

“Pupils are thoughtful, knowledgeable and religiously literate; the quality of their responses is exceptional. Scripture is at the heart of the school and influences the policies, procedures, and actions of the community. Leaders are visionary and embed policies and procedures effectively. Teachers are equipped with excellent subject knowledge and are given time to collaboratively plan meaningful and effective lessons. Collective worship is central to school life; it enriches pupils and staff.

CSI INSPECTION MARCH 2023

“St John Vianney Primary School prepares pupils to be confident, lifelong learners. It effectively supports pupils’ social and emotional well-being, which ensures pupils are ready to learn. The school teaches pupils its behaviour expectations through the ‘ready, respectful, safe.’ This ensures that there is a consistent and fair approach to behaviour management. The staff who lead curriculum improvements are passionate, knowledgeable and equipped to develop their subjects further.

The school is highly ambitious for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).

The practitioners in the early years support children to develop a love of learning. The school supports children to be resilient, capable and self-assured learners.

Staff sensitively nurture and reassure all pupils to boost their self-esteem and confidence.”
