The Governors wish to appoint a Finance Officer to join the school support team. This is a rare and exciting opportunity to join an outstanding school and take on a key role in our support staff team. The successful applicant will work closely with the Director of Finance and Support Services to ensure an effective and efficient financial management service. In addition, the post holder will work in collaboration with the Trust Central Finance Team, providing support as required and playing a key part in the smooth operation of the overall Trust finances. The successful applicant will be hard working, flexible, and have excellent communication skills as detailed on the personal specification. The successful candidate would also need to be prepared to support the Catholic/Christian ethos at St Mary’s in this role.

St Mary’s is a very popular and happy school, rated Outstanding by the Diocese and Ofsted. We became an academy in 2013 and enjoy outstanding facilities in a new building, which opened in 2011. We joined the Bishop Bewick Catholic Education Trust in June 2020. We are also very popular with parents and are one of the most over-subscribed schools in the North-East. The roll has grown from around 1100 five years ago to over 1440 by September 2025, with 5 main school year groups of around 235 and a Sixth Form of approximately 270 students. We expect the Sixth Form to continue to grow in the next couple of years, as strongly academic year groups continue to move into Sixth Form.

As an Outstanding school, St Mary’s plays a leading role within the Trust and more widely, leading significant school improvement, training and leadership development across other schools, as well as sharing good practice in academic achievement and teaching and learning across many other schools in the north-east. We also play a leading role in teacher training across the region.

If you require any further information about the post, please do not hesitate to contact Danielle Largue, Deputy Headteacher.

Applications should be completed via Eteach, with a supporting statement addressed to Miss Patterson outlining the qualifications, experience, skills and attributes, which you will bring to the post.

Closing date: 9.00am on Monday 30th March 2026 Interviews are likely to be held shortly after this date.

The school is fully committed to safeguarding and the welfare of children and young people. This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check and an online search for shortlisted candidates, as part of our due diligence.

Safeguarding Statement:

St Mary's Catholic School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

In accordance with the safeguarding vulnerable groups’ regime [2006] & the relevant Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSiE) DfE guidance, any offer of employment made will be conditional upon the results of checks from the Disclosure & Barring Service (“the DBS”) and Teacher Services (regarding teacher prohibition/disqualification from working with children and young people).

School roles give privileged access to vulnerable groups, therefore, we require all applicants attending interview to disclose all spent convictions and cautions under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exemptions) Order 1975 unless it is a “protected” conviction/caution under the amendments made to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exemptions) Order 1975 (in 2013) and, therefore, not subject to disclosure.
