We are looking for a hard-working individual to join us as a teacher of religious studies (maternity leave).
The Bishop of Llandaff is an 11-18 co-educational comprehensive school serving the Christian and non-Christian communities within the city and surrounding areas including The Vale of Glamorgan, Caerphilly, Rhondda Cynon Taff, and Bridgend. Standards of achievement at all levels are exceptionally high, with outcomes consistently performing amongst the best schools in Wales and rest of the UK. However, the school is more than just about examination outcomes. Our students take part in a broad range of activities that help them become "well-rounded" and our strong Christian ethos helps shape our students to become positive role models in our society. It genuinely is a happy place to learn and work! We want every student to have the best start in life by providing them with an outstanding education! We seek to ensure each student in our care achieves their full potential academically; develops the skills necessary to be successful in our ever-changing world; and understands a sense of morality guided by the gospel values of love, acceptance, responsibility, and forgiveness. These aims are delivered through a commitment to providing high quality learning experiences, a strong pastoral system and an extensive range of sporting, cultural, physical, and extra-curricular activities.
About the role
Religious studies is a core subject at The Bishop of Llandaff and is very popular amongst students. At GCSE, all students sit the full course qualification and A level, there are strong numbers of students opting for the subject. Achievement in religious studies is very strong, with students consistently achieving at least expected progress.
The religious studies faculty also includes social sciences (sociology, psychology and criminology). While these operate as separate subjects, the faculty system within the school is designed to support the sharing effective practice in teaching and career development for staff. The team is located in A and E block within the school and each classroom has its own dedicated equipment to ensure high quality learning. This includes interactive whiteboards, and visualizers.
The post-holder would be expected to teach religious studies up to and including A level. However, as a minimum to GCSE level. Given this is a maternity leave post, we anticipate the role is likely to be up to two, possibly three terms. The role would suit a newly qualified teacher searching for their first position or an experienced teacher looking for a fresh challenge in a different context. All teaching staff are also issued with a 2-in-1 laptop device.
