We are looking for a talented and hard-working individual to join us as our Duke of Edinburgh/Combined Cadet Force (CCF) School Staff Instructor.
The Bishop of Llandaff is an 11-18 co-educational comprehensive school serving the Christian and non-Christian communities within the city and surrounding areas including The Vale of Glamorgan, Caerphilly, Rhondda Cynon Taff, and Bridgend. Standards of achievement at all levels are exceptionally high, with outcomes consistently performing amongst the best schools in Wales and rest of the UK. However, the school is more than just about examination outcomes. Our students take part in a broad range of activities that help them become "well-rounded" and our strong Christian ethos helps shape our students to become positive role models in our society. It genuinely is a happy place to learn and work! We want every student to have the best start in life by providing them with an outstanding education! We seek to ensure each student in our care achieves their full potential academically; develops the skills necessary to be successful in our ever-changing world; and understands a sense of morality guided by the gospel values of love, acceptance, responsibility, and forgiveness. These aims are delivered through a commitment to providing high quality learning experiences, a strong pastoral system and an extensive range of sporting, cultural, physical, and extra-curricular activities.
About the role
This is a unique role at school, with a wonderful opportunity to help enrich the lives of students beyond the classroom.
Duke of Edinburgh is exceptionally popular, with students achieving various levels of the award. From Year 9, students are encouraged to work towards the bronze level, while students work through silver and gold by the time they leave in Year 13. In September 2024, the school officially opened its RAF Combined Cadet Force (CCF). Although a new contingent, our first cohort of 50 students have already completed their First Class badge. By September 2025, we anticipate a further 20 students to join as cadets. Again, this is offered from Year 9.
Given the nature of each element of the role, the appointed person will have had experience serving within the military and, ideally, leading expeditions with young people. As School Staff Instructor (SSI), the successful person will work alongside a CCF Lead and several other staff who support the contingent. Similarly, a range of staff actively engage in delivery of the Duke of Edinburgh programme. Although desired, the training to instruct either at Bronze or Silver level can be obtained early on within the role. However, there is no expectation for the Gold element of the programme to be coordinated within the first year.
Closing Date 12.00pm on 18th September 2025;
Interview Date w/c 29th September 2025; and
Start Date 1st January 2026.
Safeguarding Statement:
Employment is subject to a satisfactory enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). The Bishop of Llandaff is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
