We are looking for a talented and hard-working individual to join us as a teacher of biology.
The Bishop of Llandaff is an 11-18 co-educational comprehensive school serving the Christian and non-Christian communities within the city and surrounding areas including The Vale of Glamorgan, Caerphilly, Rhondda Cynon Taff, and Bridgend. Standards of achievement at all levels are exceptionally high, with outcomes consistently performing amongst the best schools in Wales and rest of the UK. However, the school is more than just about examination outcomes. Our students take part in a broad range of activities that help them become "well-rounded" and our strong Christian ethos helps shape our students to become positive role models in our society. It genuinely is a happy place to learn and work! We want every student to have the best start in life by providing them with an outstanding education! We seek to ensure each student in our care achieves their full potential academically; develops the skills necessary to be successful in our ever-changing world; and understands a sense of morality guided by the gospel values of love, acceptance, responsibility, and forgiveness. These aims are delivered through a commitment to providing high quality learning experiences, a strong pastoral system and an extensive range of sporting, cultural, physical, and extra-curricular activities.
About the role
Science is a highly popular and very successful subject at the school. Standards at all key stages are exceptionally high and students are very enthusiastic towards the subject. As seen over a sustained period, students of all abilities exceed modelled expectations in all three science disciplines.
The quality of teaching and learning within the science department is consistently outstanding and the successful applicant would be joining a very strong team of highly effective scientists. At key stage 3, staff predominantly teach science as a subject but move into specialisms at GCSE and AS/A Level. The science faculty is situated on the second floor of C block, which is the main building. Following Welsh Government funding, all science laboratories were refurbished in September 2024. Similarly, all classrooms at school are equipped with up-to-date technology including interactive boards and visualizers.
The role would suit a newly qualified teacher searching for their first position, or an experienced teacher looking for a fresh challenge in a different context. A recruitment incentive is available for an experienced biologist with a proven track record of supporting students to achieve very well in public examinations. All new members of staff receive a very strong programme of induction, which includes an allocated member of staff to support with the operational elements of joining a new school, as well as a tailored support package to meet individual needs. In addition, all teaching staff are also issued with a school 2-in-1 laptop device.
Closing Date 12.00pm on 10th March 2026;
Interview Date w/c 16th March 2026; and
Start Date 1st September 2026.
* A recruitment incentive allowance may be available for an excellent applicant with a proven track-record in helping students to secure sustained high performance (contextual) at their current school. The additional £2,000 incentive will be offered on a two-year basis.
