We are looking for an ambitious, passionate and energetic individual to join us as Head of Performing Arts (music specialist is essential).

The Bishop of Llandaff is an 11-18 co-educational comprehensive school serving the Christian and non-Christian communities within the city and surrounding areas including The Vale of Glamorgan, Caerphilly, Rhondda Cynon Taff, and Bridgend. Standards of achievement at all levels are exceptionally high, with outcomes consistently performing amongst the best schools in Wales and rest of the UK. However, the school is more than just about examination outcomes. Our students take part in a broad range of activities that help them become "well-rounded" and our strong Christian ethos helps shape our students to become positive role models in our society. It genuinely is a happy place to learn and work! We want every student to have the best start in life by providing them with an outstanding education! We seek to ensure each student in our care achieves their full potential academically; develops the skills necessary to be successful in our ever-changing world; and understands a sense of morality guided by the gospel values of love, acceptance, responsibility, and forgiveness. These aims are delivered through a commitment to providing high quality learning experiences, a strong pastoral system and an extensive range of sporting, cultural, physical, and extra-curricular activities.

About the role
The performing arts department comprises music, which is taught throughout all key stages, and drama, offered at key stage 4 and 5 only, as an optional subject. The department is very popular at the school and performance is very strong at all levels. The department is made up of three specialists (two musicians and one drama specialist), located in designated areas of the site. Over the summer, there has been substantial investment within performing arts, both within classrooms and facilities, such as staging and instruments, used by the performing arts team for whole-school events.

Performing arts plays a substantial role in the wider life of the school. It contributes to the spiritual life at The Bishop of Llandaff, with students singing daily at school assemblies and year group Eucharists, supported by our thriving worship bands and choir. Similarly, extra-curricular opportunities are broad and rich. Junior and senior choirs, orchestra and ‘Big Band’ are a key part of school life, with the recent musical, ‘Sister Act’ being sold out for the entire week.

The role becomes available following the intended retirement of the current post-holder who has served the school with distinction for the past 17-years. It would suit an ambitious, passionate and energetic music specialist, looking for their first leadership role or an experienced middle leader looking for a new challenge at a high performing school.
