The Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle and the Directors of Bishop Bewick Catholic Education Trust invite applications for this position, to commence September 2025.

Due to the retirement of our Deputy Headteacher applications are invited from practising and committed Catholic leaders for the post of Deputy Headteacher of St Wilfrid’s Catholic Primary School.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join St. Wilfrid’s Catholic Primary School as Deputy Headteacher. This is a role with a teaching commitment. The role will provide further leadership development opportunities for the successful candidate, who will be required to deputise for the Headteacher when they are out of school.

St Wilfrid’s is a popular one and a half form entry Catholic school situated in the port town of Blyth in Northumberland, with good transport links. We are a short walk from the beach and harbour and are involved in many local initiatives such as the Port of Blyth STEM partnership, Blyth Carnival, inter-schools sporting events and arts and performance opportunities through the Northumberland Catholic Partnership and our Trust.

St Wilfrid’s is a very diverse Catholic community where the messages of the Gospel are at the heart of everything we do. We believe that each person is made in the image and likeness of God and therefore we value and respect each member of our school community as the unique individual that they are. St. Wilfrid’s is a happy place where the needs of the 'whole child' are at the heart of all we do and as a result our pupils thrive.

The successful candidate will benefit from an experienced and supportive governing committee, a dedicated staff team and will be part of a talented and innovative leadership group.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join the Senior Leadership Team of a dynamic, diverse, ambitious and caring school. We wish to appoint an enthusiastic, committed, excellent leader who has a passion for teaching and learning, is an outstanding teacher, has high expectations for pupils’ achievement and behaviour and will be committed to the school’s mission and values.

The Deputy Headteacher will work closely with the Headteacher across a full range of operational and strategic matters, and will encourage, challenge and inspire staff to achieve the best outcomes for our pupils.

The successful candidate should have learning experiences, curriculum vision and an understanding of the importance of Catholic leadership. This is a highly visible position and the successful candidate will play an active role in our school’s journey to excellence.

We welcome applications from those with experience of deputy headship who are ready for the challenges of senior leadership in a large primary school.

There will be opportunities for prospective applicants to visit the school. Interested candidates should contact our School Business Manager via email or telephone to arrange a visit.

Application forms and further information are available by following the link on our website to our online recruitment portal for submission by 9.00am on 2nd June 2025. Interviews will be held on 18th June 2025.
